What full admin RDP access lets you do

Administrator is not a checkbox on a feature list. It is the difference between owning the server and borrowing a login.

Install anything

Any browser, MetaTrader 4 or 5, AdsPower, Telegram, Python, Node.js, a VPN client. There is no approved-software list and no ticket to ask permission.

Change the RDP port and firewall

Move Remote Desktop off port 3389, allow only your own IP in Windows Firewall, turn on Network Level Authentication. On a shared RDP none of this is available to you.

Create extra users

Add a standard account for an assistant, or a second administrator for a partner. Remove them when the job is done. Your server, your decision.

Schedule tasks and services

Task Scheduler jobs, startup scripts and Windows services run under your account, survive a reboot and keep working after you disconnect.

Reboot and reinstall yourself

Restart from inside Windows or from the client area. Reinstall Windows 10 Pro, Windows 11 Pro or Windows Server 2019 in minutes without waiting on support.

Resources that are yours

Your vCPUs, DDR5 memory and NVMe space are reserved for your virtual machine on a Ryzen 9 7950X host. A neighbour running something heavy does not slow your desktop.

Shared RDP vs admin RDP

The same word, RDP, covers two very different products. This is what separates them.

Shared RDP column reflects the usual terms of shared Windows Server logins sold across the RDP market as of September 2026.

Admin RDP, private RDP, dedicated RDP: one product, three names

An admin RDP is a Windows virtual machine that belongs to one customer, with the administrator account handed over at setup. The same product is sold as private RDP, because nobody else is on the machine, and as dedicated RDP, because the IP and the resources are dedicated to you. It is not a dedicated physical server, and honest sellers do not pretend it is. At VPSLake every plan on the Windows RDP page is this kind of server. There is no shared tier below it.

Why shared RDP looks cheap and ends up expensive

A shared RDP is a single Windows Server with dozens of user accounts on it. The seller pays for one machine and one IP, so the login can be priced very low. What you give up is control. You cannot install software that needs administrator rights, which rules out most browsers with extensions, every trading terminal and every automation tool. You cannot reboot when something hangs. The IP is shared, so one customer's ban on a platform becomes everyone's ban. When the machine gets slow because another user is running a bot, there is nothing you can do but open a ticket.

Cheap admin RDP removes all of that for a small difference in price. The administrator account is yours, the IP is yours, and the vCPU, memory and disk are reserved for your VM by the hypervisor.

Things buyers actually do with administrator access

  • Install Chrome, Firefox or an anti-detect browser and add the extensions they need
  • Install MetaTrader, TradingView desktop or a broker terminal and leave expert advisors running
  • Change the Remote Desktop port and restrict it to their own IP address
  • Create a second user for a virtual assistant, with or without admin rights
  • Schedule a script to run every hour, or a backup to run every night
  • Reinstall from the client area to start clean, or to switch between Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server

Which plan for an admin RDP

The 2 GB plan is the right start for one person running one main application: a browser with a handful of tabs, a trading terminal, or a small script. It is a full admin RDP, not a cut-down one. Move to 4 GB when you keep many tabs open or run an anti-detect browser with several profiles. 8 GB and above suit Android emulators and heavier automation. Upgrading keeps your data and takes one reboot. See the cheap RDP page for what is and is not included at the entry price.

What administrator access does not change

Read this firstThe IP is a datacenter address in Salt Lake City, not a residential one. Full admin means you are responsible for what runs on the server: keep Windows updated, use a strong password, and read our terms before installing anything that a platform you use might forbid. We manage the host, the network and reinstalls. Problems inside your own software are yours to fix, though we will point you in the right direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

A shared RDP is one user account on a Windows Server that dozens of other customers also log in to. You get a desktop but no administrator rights, no reboot, and an IP shared with everyone else. An admin RDP is a whole private virtual machine. You hold the administrator account, the IP is yours alone, and the CPU, memory and disk are reserved for you.
Every plan, including the smallest 2 GB plan, is a private KVM virtual machine with full administrator access. We do not sell shared logins at any price. The plan size changes the vCPU, memory, disk and bandwidth you receive. It never changes what you are allowed to do on the server.
Yes. Both are yours to change from inside Windows. Moving Remote Desktop off port 3389 and restricting it to your own IP in Windows Firewall are two of the first things we suggest doing. If you lock yourself out, a reinstall from the client area gives you a fresh server and a new password in minutes.
Yes. Add as many local Windows users as you like and decide whether each one is a standard user or an administrator. On Windows 10 Pro and Windows 11 Pro only one person can be signed in to the desktop at a time. If several people need to work at once, pick Windows Server 2019 on the order form.
In practice, yes. Sellers use admin RDP, private RDP and dedicated RDP to mean a virtual machine that belongs to one customer with administrator rights, as opposed to a shared server login. A dedicated RDP is not a dedicated physical server. At VPSLake all three names describe the same product: a private KVM VM with a dedicated IPv4.
You can reboot from the client area even if Remote Desktop is not responding. If Windows itself will not start, reinstall from the client area with any of the available templates. The server is rebuilt in a few minutes on the same IP. Anything on the disk is lost, so keep copies of important files elsewhere.
The IPv4 address is dedicated to your server for as long as you keep it, and nobody else uses it. It is a datacenter IP in Salt Lake City, Utah, not a residential or mobile one. If a platform you work with blocks datacenter ranges, an admin RDP will not get around that.
Windows 10 Pro is the safe default for one person and the widest software compatibility. Windows 11 Pro gives you the current desktop and is happier on 4 GB or more. Windows Server 2019, with or without Chrome preinstalled, is for several users at once or for running services. All are the same price and switchable later.
